Character Assassination
25. May 2008 by admin.
Hillary has been staying in the race hoping for a Macaca moment. It happened, only it’s happened to her.
She’s actually been pushing the RFK angle for months, but the recent cancer dagnosis by Sen. Ted Kennedy gave the MSM an excuse to suddenly notice. The sharks were already circling the Clinton campaign but with the new blood in the water watch for a bloody froth to drip from your newspapers.

At this point, it’s just extortion, and Chelsea for prez 2016?
22. May 2008 by admin.
So now Hillary is saying she’s willing to take the FL & MI delegates battle to the convention. So even if the Superdelegates all decide for Barack on 3 June, the Democratic clusterfuck could drag on till August where the candidate can be decided in smoke free back rooms (I doubt you’re allowed to smoke inside the convention hall any more).
At this point, someone needs to ask Clinton nicely: “What is it going to cost to make you go away?”
And the Daily Mail ran an article on how Chelsea might be setting up a run in 2016. Their evidence? A vendor in Florida was selling “Chelsea 2016″ buttons.

It doesn’t look like this is going to get harder any time soon.
22. May 2008 by admin.
In my last entry, I remarked on how the Bush administration made mocking our government easy. Well, the Dems aren’t going to make me work any harder.
So Congress passes a huge farm bill, that is only marginally related to farming, and send it to the president. The president vetoes it, as promised, and sends it back. The House overwhelmingly votes to override the veto, and gets ready to send it to the Senate. Simple so far, right?
No. It seems when Congress printed up the Farm Bill, they forgot to include, oh, about 34 pages. So the bill vetoed by the president was technically a different bill than the one passed by Congress.
The upshot, it looks like Congress will have to go back and redo the thing from the start.
Considering the billions being spent on pork and unnecessary subsidies, couldn’t Congress afford to hire a proofreader or two?

So Do You Think They Just Don’t Tell Him These Things?
21. May 2008 by admin.
Last week Pres. Bush, in a speech to the Israeli Knesset, mocked those who would negotiate with “terrorists and radicals” as appeasers to the Nazis. Today we discover in the NY Times that Israel and Syria are engaged in exactly those kind of talks with the aim of creating a comprehensive peace agreement. The kicker is, according to the Times, the talks “were coordinated with the United States”. So now we have a president who is criticizing his own administration? Or is the president out of the loop?
I’m going to miss the Bush administration. They make this blog so easy.

If Only The Weatherman Was As Accurate
21. May 2008 by admin.
As predicted, Hillary took Kentucky while Barack took Oregon. About the only interesting thing is the MSM is screaming about how Hill took Kentucky in a landslide 65%-30%, but according to the New York Times interactive graphic on their website, Barack took Oregon 68%-31%. Now, I’ll be the first to admit I suck at math, but even I can tell that means Barack took Oregon by two more points than Hillary took Kentucky. WTF?
Looking over the results this morning, I was struck by the thought that all three candidates are lying to us by pretending this is a three way race still. The only person who can reasonably believe that is Clinton, with the hope that Obama has a ‘macaca’ moment that implodes his campaign. This is the only chance she has of winning the nomination, and with the worshipful attitude the MSM has adopted toward Obama so far, it would be interesting to see how much bending the MSM would do before something became a ’scandal’.
I thought Barrack’s comments about Hillary were very nice, especially when contrasted with Bill’s accusations of sexism. I’m not sure Bill should be allowed to use that word, it makes too many people giggle uncontrollably.
It’s sad to see Mr. Straight-Talk start talking at an angle. His pandering to the Cuban population in South Florida about the Cuba Embargo is at odds with his position in 2000. Yes, they’re one of the most important voting blocks in one of the most important states, but there has to be a more honest way to earn their votes, like pimping out his daughter.

Blah Blah Blah
20. May 2008 by admin.
Oregon and Kentucky are holding primaries today. Obama will win one and Clinton the other. While it’s expected that Barack will secure the minimum necessary delegates to ‘clinch’ the nomination, he’s not going to declare victory, because that might look like was trying to ‘push’ Hillary out of the race. Why the Hell not?
I understand the desire to maintain the appearance of being a gentleman, and the need to avoid fracturing the Democratic Party by forceful infighting, but what does this say about Barack and confrontations? I agree with him that we should be willing to talk to just about anyone (I was disappointed the Obama campaign didn’t counter Bush’s “tanks rolling into Poland” speech with the Churchill [who knew something about Nazi tanks] quote “Jaw, Jaw is better than War, War.”) But the time comes when the gentlemanly demeanor needs to be dropped and a leader needs to push and shove. Barack’s unwillingness to do that has me concerned about how he’s going to handle foreign leaders in a crisis. He needs to show he knows when, and how, to stop talking and take decisive action.
Also interesting is that the Obama and McCain campaigns have started ignoring the Clinton campaign. The only group still giving Hillary’s campaign any attention is the MSM, and then only to ask when she’s going to quit. This marginalization shows just how over the Democratic primary is. The New York Times even ran a postmortem article on what went wrong. It seems everyone got the death certificate except the deceased.

Insert Statement of Surprise Here!
17. May 2008 by admin.
First off, an apology. I check the stats on unique hits, pageviews, etc. for Ontheblob.net, Paperbagninja.com & Greenpunk.org regularly, ’cause I know people are utilizing those sites. But tonight I checked the stats for the blog, and holy cheese, people are reading this too! Now that I know this, I’ll post much more regularly, to give you a reason to do so.
Of course, it wouldn’t hurt for you to respond back with comments; this is Web 2.0 you know.
So, a random thought for 4:30 am: what can I do to make the websites better? I like Scott Adams new functionality of allowing his readers to insert their own punchlines into his old strips. Would people be interested in doing the same with PBN? What about LOLNinjas? I can’t accept storyline suggestions for It Ain’t Easy Being Green or other fiction for legal reasons, but what kind of interactivity can I give Ontheblob? How about Greenpunk? Shoot me an email, or better yet, post your ideas in the comment section?
So, totally jacking Scott Adam’s idea, what if I were to publish a text free version of the comic for people to caption themselves, and I would post them and allow voting? The winner would be enshrined on a Mash Up page, and maybe win a PBN handpuppet or something (yes, a brown lunch bag with a hand drawn PBN face on it. But hey, I’ll sign it for you.)
Let me know.

Stop me if you’ve heard this…
7. May 2008 by admin.
So, a politician begins a massive project, suffers setback after setback, refuses to acknowledge a failing strategy and vows to fight to the bitter end.
President Bush and Iraq? No, Hillary and the Democratic nomination.
She can’t win. The elections in FL & MI were bollocks, and it would be more undemocratic to include those results than to exclude them. There aren’t enough delegates left in play to catch up to Obama, and the superdelegates can follow the money trail well enough to see the Clinton campaign is a sunk ship. Enough of them are deserting like rats to prove that.
Hillary fought a good fight, but needs to realize this isn’t her year, pack up the bus, and try again in ‘12 or maybe ‘16 if Obama wins the general election. McCain has shown this is a viable strategy.
As an aside, many have noted the symmetry between the Clinton campaign and Hillary’s pick for the Kentucky Derby.

Has It Really Been 3 Weeks?
6. May 2008 by admin.
Crap, I need to get on here more often.
I could offer lame excuses: I’ve been dedicating my time to updating the PBN website so it doesn’t look so slapdash, and I’m trying to keep ahead of the Being Green story, and this just fell right through the cracks.
In reality it’s because religion, politics and geek has gotten boringgg!
Even Gary Trudeau has taken a sabbatical from writing Doonsbury, politics have gotten so predictable. McCain is keeping his head down while Obama and Clinton damage the Democrats chance to win the White House for personal ego.
I mean it was fun to watch a couple of primaries ago, but now it’s just predictable. Even with Indiana and whatever Carolina is voting today, we know what’s going to happen.
I do kind of hope for a contested primary. That could be fun.
D&D’s 4th edition is coming out in a couple of months, but even that’s boring, because from the previews it looks like they are continuing the trend of making characters even more munchkin with extra powers and abilities than they were before. It’s essentially WoW the RPG.
The pope came to visit, and said nice things, and even met with some victims of the sex abuse scandal. I don’t know that it actually will result in any changes, but it was a nice touch, and at least the papal pr guy gets my respect for have Pope Bennie do it, especially in such an understated way.
So, gentle readers, we while away our time until the summer, when things should pick up.

I’m Baaaccckkk!
14. April 2008 by admin.
Did ya miss me? No? I don’t blame you.
But big things have been happening at Ontheblob etc. We’re officially a webgroup (as least in my mind) having spun off PaperBagNinja.com & now Greenpunk.org. PBN is familiar to regular readers, but Greenpunk.org is, as far as I can tell, a completely unique enterprise. Greenpunk is related to the genres of cyberpunk and steampunk, but instead of exploring worlds that never were or hopefully will never be, greenpunk is about taking today’s world and saving it from the impending ecological disaster through human creativity. Part 1 is up, go take a look.
